Exfinity and ASUSTeK launch Digital Infrastructure Forum

Exfinity, one of the leading architects of specialized High-end machines and ASUSTeK Computer Inc. have announced the launch of India’s first-of-its-kind Digital Infrastructure Forum (DIF).

The inaugural forum held on December 1, 2006, had Parvez Diwan, Founder Exfinity and Andrew Tsui, Managing Director, ASUS India speaking on “Enhancing Post-Production Returns”

An official release quoted, “As the Indian film industry is going digital very quickly, the economy has unleashed a film and advertising boom that has spawned the digital design studios now seeking film production contracts. Today, the Indian graphics, animation, and digital media industry is valued at $600 million and is expected to grow up to $15 billion by 2008. According to FICCI, the Indian animation industry alone stands at $260 million and projected to be $1 billion by 2009.”

In their efforts to have a leading edge, production houses all over India are continuously investing in the latest technology. They are looking for an end-to-end digital infrastructure to simplify the production cycle and enable their creative staff to be more focused on the product.

Andrew Tsui, Managing Director, ASUS India said, “The Indian media & entertainment industry is undergoing a major paradigm shift, which has created a plethora of new opportunities for the Post Production segment. As a technology driven organization, ASUS aims to offer a product portfolio that would cater specifically to this kind of a niche requirement. Having had the experience of working with this segment internationally, we would now like to use this platform to share ideas & experience of maximizing productivity of the Indian digital infrastructure scenario.”

During the forum, a comparative analysis between highly optimized computer by Exfinity using ASUS components and Non-optimized computers demonstrated that, effective use of optimized post production infrastructure can reduce the time of rendering by multiple times, thus increasing the productive time of the animator and implying higher returns.

Explaining the need for effectively optimizing computers and networks, Diwan shared, “Using existing infrastructure and creating a collaborative environment completely eliminates the need for sequential data transfer among different workstations saves substantial amount of time and effort.” He further added, “Cost effective use of Hybrid SAN and NAS solutions with high performance computers empowers studios to work on large projects in a highly effective manner. Digital assets can give returns in terms of reusable content and alternately offloading of tasks to automated render farms.”

The Forum was attended by some of the industry’s well known names like Sagar Arts, FX Factory, Western India Film producers association and many more.

Digital Infrastructure Forum (DIF) focuses on providing high efficiency solutions in Content Creation arena. Each forum has been planned to assist in formulating future directions by featuring workshops, seminars and conference sessions by industry leaders. DIF is slated to be a regular forum targeting various industries that have to meet the technological demands.
