CMS Vatavaran, the documentary film fest invites entries from animators

nullCMS Vatavaran, an international environment documentary film festival organized by Delhi based Centre for Media Studies (CMS); one of India’s leading media research houses is inviting entries from animators in the animation category for Vatavaran-2007. Entries close on 30th April, 2007.

Currently in its fourth edition, CMS Vatavaran is a biannual documentary film festival as well as an activity forum which promotes space for environment issues in the public media serving the dual purpose of generating awareness and recognizing the environment and wild life filmmakers.

Besides categories like Livelihood, Wildlife Conservation, Environmental Conservation and Nature, the festival is also inviting animated movies based on the environment and wildlife. This five day festival is which begins on September 12 at the India Habitat Centre in Delhi will end on 16 September ’07.

Speaking to AnimationXpress.com, P.N. Vasanti, Director of CMS shared, “Animation is a very effective mode of communication/ filmmaking. Over the years the festival and has grown in prestige, stature, reach, association and patronage. This year we are expecting as many as 500 entries both in the international and national categories combined.”

The entries are judged on the criteria of technicality, idea and evolution of the subject. The jury for CMS Vatavaran comprises eminent personalities including Ram Mohan, Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Bhaskar Ghose and Shyam Benegal.

I judged the movies on the basis of technical execution, the idea and evolution of the subject as well as how it has been structured.”

Dhimant Vyas, eminent animator and participant of last year’s festival commented, “CMS Vatavaran is an excellent step taken by the Centre for Media Studies. Vatavaran not only creates awareness among common people on the environmental issues but also provides a good platform for animators and film makers to keep their creativity and ideas in front of the world. I am looking forward to see some good movies and artwork of the artists this year.”

CMS was founded in the year 1991 and is headed by Dr.N.Bhaskar Rao, the Chairman of CMS.
